Future Idiots Interview

Future Idiots interview with Mike

Q: The 16 songs you ended up covering were a fairly odd combination that didn't seem to have any rhyme or reason behind their selections. Any reason for choosing these particular songs?

A: We basically just thought that the songs had potential to be good rock versions. The two ballads are the exact opposite, they're two good rock songs that we thought would be nice piano versions.

Q: How did you guys decide upon the 16 songs that you ended up covering? Did you guys get together as a group and decide which songs you were going to cover, or did each member pick out a favorite that they wanted to cover and you went from there, or was their a completely different method that you used?

A: Each one of us comes with ideas for covers, which we then try to piece together and see if it they'll work as a Future Idiots cover.

Q: Do you see yourself releasing any more cover albums in the near future?

A: We would love to do a follow up to GTA. We're constantly making new covers, so we could probably release a cover album every year.

Q: Is there any one song you wish you could go back and add to the album?

A: We just made a cover of Train's "Hey, Soul Sister" witch sounds really great, it would've been nice to add.

Q: If you guys get the chance to tour the US are there any areas in particular that you hope to play?

A: California for sure! It's where our music style basically originates from, so it would totally kick ass to play shows there.

Q: Are there any specific artists that you hope to be able to tour with in the coming years?

A: Well obviously it would be a dream come true to play with Blink 182. They're the reason we play music today so there's nothing else we' d rather do. Bowling For Soup would probably be really awesome too, they're a great live band and they seem to have a lot of fun on and off stage, so there would easily be lots of good times with them.

Q: Do you guys have a particularly memorable tour story or show mishap that you would care to share?

A: I'd say that pretty much every show we've ever played has been a mishap *laugh* No but we've had a lot of bad luck with gear and equipment throughout the years. Some of us believe in a curse that was laid upon us from our first drummer. That guy has some serious bad luck!

Q: You guys not only paid homage to 14 different artists you also paid your respect to one of the most successful video game franchises in the world when you imitated Grand Theft Auto's artwork. That being said, are there any gamers in the group?

A: Hell yeah! Me (Mike) and Johan are probably the biggest video gamers in the band, but Alex does a lot of RPG'ing, so I guess he's the more intellectual of us, or the more nerdy, I guess. Just check out our AVGN music video. Most of the games were our own.
