Kyoto Drive

Kyoto Drive Interview w/Mike Levell

PRR: The average lifespan of a band is approximately two years. Is that going to be the case for Kyoto Drive or do you have your sites set on longer term goals? If so what might those goals be?

Mike: Well I can’t predict what will happen in the next two years but I know that all of us want to take this band as far as it can go! As for the next two years, our goals have got to be to release the new record and tour the arse off of it and get it out to as many people possible! Then we can start thinking about a second release!

PRR: What was it like recording your upcoming debut album "This Is All We Ever Wanted?"

Mike: For me it was my first time in a proper recording studio but I know the rest of the guys had recorded with Jim (Turner – Tribute to Nothing) before so they knew what to expect! Recording the new record was sick though! Jim gave us loads of advice and helped us make some crucial decisions when we needed that outsider’s point of view! It was just what we needed to hear and helped make the record what it is, which we are all extremely grateful for!

PRR: Was it the first full length you've ever professionally recorded or have you been involved in other bands that have had similar releases?

Mike: It was My Personal first full length professionally recorded but the other guys used to be in a band signed to a British label over here called Lockjaw Records & they recorded a full length with them which Jim produced as well! This is why we decided to work with him as the boys knew him and the way that he worked on previous releases and I had all the faith that he would produce us a freaking awesome debut and I think he has accomplished that!

PRR: Besides the upcoming album are there any other projects in your future?

Mike: We are always writing and we started some new stuff last week which is sounding epic as fuck (sorry for my language but I had to get at least one swear word in) and there has been talks of us maybe releasing another EP before we do a second full length but I don’t know what will happen! We will see how the first one does I guess ha-ha! Another thing which we put on the backburner this year was a split with our buddies in Maycomb (check em out @ www.myspace.com/maycombuk ) which I know both bands still want to do when we get the chance!

PRR: Favorite hobby outside of music?

Mike: Skateboarding and hanging out with my friends and drinking beers!

PRR: If you could tour with one band, who would it be? and where would you go?

Mike: For me it would either be Circa Survive or Moneen and I'd want to tour the whole of the US & Canada! That for me would just be unreal!

PRR:
Favorite KD song?

Mike: What a question!! Ermm…. I love playing I'd Give It All live because it's normally the closing song of the set and it always gets me pumped! But I love the first song Transitions as its really energetic and probs the heaviest of the tracks which is what I love about it!

PRR: Worst job you've ever had?

Mike: Probs working as a Pot Wash in a Hotel it sucked balls! Mountains of dirty dishes and pots everywhere and your always the last to leave which sucks as you could never go out after work because you stunk like Old Food! What a way to entice the Ladies ay!!

PRR:
Favorite food?

Mike:
Chocolate! and Tandoori Chicken Madras, it's awesome Curry but without the chocolate! That’s just my fav snack food! A chocolate chicken curry would just be Bad Times!!
