Kyoto Drive Interview w/Mark Piper
PRR: Do you think you'll always be involved in music in some way or another? MARK: It is my dream. There’s not much else that I enjoy doing, music is pretty much my whole life. If I’m not in a band then I would like to do management, or own my own label. Even if it’s composing songs for other artists I would still be happy. To me it’s not about making money or being famous, it’s just waking up everyday and enjoying life because I’m doing the thing that makes me happy. PRR: Have you been to college? If so what's your major? MARK: Yes and No…….It’s different in the UK. We have school which is years 1 – 11, we then go to college and then University which I think is the equivalent to your College. I didn’t go to University but I studied Music Technology at College and passed. PRR: You would think that I would have learned a little about foreign culture and the educational system overseas considering I took three years of french/cultural studies. Oh well, I'm okay with being an ignorant American. PRR: How many releases do you predict Kyoto Drive will have? MARK: 25! With KD we all listen to a wide variety of music which helps with the writing process. The next album won’t be like the last one, and so on. So we'll just carry on until the day none of us want to do it anymore. PRR: If you had one sentence to describe your new album what would it be? MARK: The album Geddy Fucking Lee wishes he played on! PRR: Favorite hobby outside of music? MARK: In the past year I’ve really gotten into reading comics. I started off by reading The Amory Wars by Claudio Sanchez of Coheed And Cambria, who are one of my favorite bands. I’ve been reading The Walking Dead which is fantastic, I’ve been told there making a T.V serious out of it so that’s going to be awesome. My girlfriend has also got me into Anime which I’m loving. So I have quite a big collection of that. So when I’m not doing the band thing I read comics and watch Anime DVD’s. PRR: Damn good choice on the Coheed Comics and choice of bands. Sadly their material sells so fast and costs so much that it makes it impossible to keep up with. PRR: Favorite movie? MARK: The favorite movie question is just too hard!! So I’m going to say Lost…..I know it’s not a film but it is one of my favorite things to watch. Roll on next year when the last season is shown!! PRR: Favorite KD song to play live? MARK: Any. Playing live is my favorite part about being in a band. There’s no better adrenaline rush. I’m not the most confident of persons, but when I get on stage its like that doesn’t matter. I just turn into a completely different person, all the nerves go away, and I come across as a cocky motherfucker. PRR: First instrument you learned to play? MARK: The Guitar. I dabble on the drums and the keyboard but I can only really play the guitar. PRR: Better guitar player you or Mike? MARK: Me of course. Mike just doesn’t have the fingering skills like me!! Maybe that’s why I’m such a hit with ladies………… |
